Response to FEB Prairies Letter

“We agree that the Gospel is foremost; however, secondary matters, like baptism, bind us together as a movement. In fact, many would see complementarianism as more important than baptism, being a creation ordinance.

It is good to appreciate our theological history and church autonomy; however, our theology is not just a historical reference point but arises from the clear teaching of Scripture. The Bible also teaches church autonomy, however, this Baptist principle can be weaponized to allow room for non-biblical principles within a fellowship when not counterbalanced with the principle of confessionalism. If we wish to voluntarily be part of a fellowship, there is a baseline to uphold as members of it.

The ’97 motion does not seek to adopt a ‘more rigid position’ but one already expressed in our bylaws and position statement. However, because of cultural pressures the ’97 motion is necessary for the sake of convictional clarity. One shouldn’t be ‘surprised and saddened’ for expressing a biblical baseline.”
