Explanatory Letter of the Motion Sent by Five Pastors to FEB churches

“The motion is a response to the increase in egalitarianism within the Fellowship and an attempt to offer greater convictional clarity to our Affirmation of Faith and Bylaws. We want all Member Churches to understand the reasons why the motion is being put forward, and the urgency of the situation our Fellowship is facing that has prompted us, after much consideration, to take this initiative. We believed that swiftness was required, as you will see, as one Fellowship church, has already been suspended for insisting on complementarian practices within the Fellowship and another ten face similar action (see below for more info).”

“Those who have signed the motion desire to celebrate the truth we hold in common and strengthen our unity for fellowship and mission by seeing our Fall 2025 Convention pass a simple motion on an already agreed upon position. The motion (stated in full at the end of this
letter) is to raise our existing position statement, “On the Gender Issue in Pastoral Leadership in Fellowship Churches’ (formally adopted via vote at National Convention in November 1997), to the status of a ‘Fellowship Policy Statement.’ According to our National Bylaw, ‘position
statements’ are non-binding, whereas ‘policy statements’ are binding. If successful, our proposed motion will turn a longstanding position document into binding policy.”

“We, the undersigned, move to elevate the Fellowship Position Statement entitled ‘On the Gender Issue in Pastoral Leadership in Fellowship Churches’ (formally adopted via vote at National Convention in November 1997), to the status of a ‘Fellowship Policy Statement’ (see By-law section 15.1 (d)).” (attached)
